UNDP's journey to a new global early careers hiring model

UNDP is the United Nations’ lead agency on international development, operating across 170 countries. Committed to building a workforce that reflects the global communities they support, in 2021 this international organisation began a transformational journey to redesign their early careers hiring strategy. Working with Cappfinity, they wanted to push boundaries to reach and engage a wider and more diverse talent pool, strengthen organisational capacity and futureproof talent pipelines.

Join ISE Chief Executive Stephen Isherwood, Cappfinity Co-Founder and Chief Customer Officer Nicky Garcea and UNDP’s Director of the Office of Human Resources David Bearfield, for a deep dive case study examining the agile transformation of UNDP’s recruitment strategy. The session will cover:

  • The drivers behind UNDP’s journey
  • How UNDP managed the global roll-out
  • What the organisation is doing to level the playing field for early careers candidates

The Panel:

Stephen Isherwood was appointed Chief Executive of the ISE in June 2013 following seven years as Head of Graduate Recruitment UK & Ireland at Ernst & Young, one of the largest recruiters of graduates in the UK.

Nicky Garcea is Co-founder and Chief Customer Officer at Cappfinity. She is an IO Psychologist who has been designing and delivering strengths and essential skills products for the last two decades. She has led on several industry award-winning solutions that have been recognised for innovation, diversity and the promotion of social mobility.

David Bearfield is Director of HR for the United Nations Development Programme, challenging the transformation of the HR function and enabling the Office of Human Resources to make a major contribution to UNDP's strategic plan. He has a very strong belief in the positive impact that Human Resources Management can make in the international public sector, and its contribution it can make to society more broadly.
